If weight loss has felt harder than it “should,” you are not alone

Maybe you have tried eating better, counting calories, exercising more, fasting, cutting carbs, tracking macros, downloading the app, deleting the app, re-downloading the app, and promising yourself that Monday will be different.

And yet, the scale still will not budge — or it moves briefly, then comes right back.

That does not mean you are lazy, broken, or doomed. It may mean your body needs a more complete medical approach.

Weight can be affected by insulin resistance, blood sugar changes, thyroid function, inflammation, sleep disruption, stress, medications, menopause, loss of muscle mass, genetics, and the way your body regulates hunger and fullness. Medical weight loss helps us look at the bigger picture so we can build a plan that actually makes sense for you.

Muscle preservation on GLP-1 for weight loss

Medication can help. A plan is what makes it work.

GLP-1 medications and other weight loss medications can be powerful tools for the right patient. But medication alone is not the whole plan.

Long-term success depends on what happens around the medication: eating enough protein, preserving muscle, managing side effects, monitoring progress, supporting metabolic health, adjusting the plan when needed, and thinking ahead about maintenance.

At Focused Health & Wellness, medical weight loss is not treated as a quick prescription or a separate diet program. It is part of whole-person care — because metabolism, hormones, nutrition, sleep, stress, medications, and long-term health are all connected.

Your medical weight loss plan includes

A thoughtful medical evaluation

We start by reviewing your health history, weight history, prior weight loss attempts, medications, symptoms, family history, goals, and any barriers that have made weight loss more difficult.

Lab-guided insight

Depending on your history and goals, lab testing may help evaluate blood sugar, insulin resistance, cholesterol, thyroid function, inflammation, liver health, kidney function, nutrient status, hormones, or other metabolic factors.

Patients with insurance may choose to use their insurance benefits for lab testing. For patients without insurance or those who prefer cash-pay options, low-cost lab testing is available.

Medication options when appropriate

For some patients, medication may be an appropriate part of the plan. This may include GLP-1 medications or other weight loss medication options depending on your medical history, goals, risks, coverage, cost, and preferences.

Dr. Epple can prescribe medication when clinically appropriate and can help with insurance documentation and prior authorization when needed. Medications are individualized, and we will discuss the benefits, limitations, safety considerations, and cost-related nuances of available options.

Nutrition support that protects your metabolism

Weight loss is not about eating as little as possible. In fact, under-eating — especially protein — can work against your long-term success.

We focus on realistic nutrition strategies that support satiety, blood sugar, muscle preservation, gut health, and sustainability. The goal is not perfection. The goal is building a way of eating that works in your actual life.

Body composition tracking

The scale does not tell the whole story.

Body composition tracking helps us look beyond pounds and better understand changes in fat mass, muscle mass, visceral fat, and overall progress. This is especially important during GLP-1 treatment, when preserving lean muscle and eating enough protein are key parts of long-term success.

Ongoing support and adjustment

Weight loss care requires monitoring, troubleshooting, and adjustment over time. Follow-up may include medication titration, side effect management, nutrition support, lab review, body composition monitoring, and planning for long-term maintenance.

GLP-1 weight loss support with nutrition and metabolic health care

What about GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications can be a game changer for some patients. They may help reduce appetite, improve fullness, quiet food noise, and support weight loss when used appropriately.

But they are not a magic wand.

These medications work best when they are part of a broader plan that includes nutrition, protein, strength and muscle preservation, medical monitoring, and a thoughtful long-term strategy.

Without that support, patients may struggle with side effects, under-eating, muscle loss, weight regain, or uncertainty about what comes next.

At Focused Health & Wellness, we take time to discuss whether GLP-1 medication is right for you, what options may be available, how to use it safely, and how to build the habits and support systems that help protect your results.

Medical weight loss consultation at Focused Health and Wellness

Start with a Weight Loss Consultation

Your first step is a Weight Loss Consultation with Dr. Epple. This visit gives us time to understand your health history, weight history, goals, symptoms, medications, prior weight loss attempts, and any factors that may be making weight loss more difficult.

From there, we will discuss a personalized plan. Depending on your needs, this may include lab testing, body composition tracking, nutrition support, GLP-1 medication or other medication options when appropriate, and a follow-up plan.

Weight loss care is adjusted over time. Follow-up may include medication adjustments, side effect support, nutrition troubleshooting, lab review, and body composition monitoring. Body composition is typically monitored every 1–3 months to help track fat loss, muscle preservation, and metabolic progress.

Because weight loss is connected to the rest of your health

Weight loss is often influenced by more than food and exercise. Sleep, stress, hormones, insulin resistance, medications, muscle mass, menopause, thyroid function, and other health conditions can all affect your progress.

That is why medical weight loss at Focused Health & Wellness is approached as part of whole-person care.

The goal is to help you lose weight in a way that supports your metabolism, protects your muscle, improves your health, and feels sustainable in real life.
